Role Overview:

This position is integral to the Safety, Quality, & Mission Assurance team, which is dedicated to overseeing and evaluating the processes that shape Blue Origin's design, manufacturing, and operational activities. Our focus is on ensuring that system safety engineering, environmental health and safety, product integrity, and continuous improvement processes align with Blue Origin's Mission and Vision.

As a key member of a dedicated team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will champion quality throughout the organization by fostering a culture that prioritizes accountability, initiative, and meticulous attention to detail. This role demands a passion for tackling complex challenges and delivering practical solutions while operating with minimal oversight and taking ownership of your responsibilities. Flexibility is essential as you will engage with a variety of applications and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with contractors and subcontractors to formulate and execute project-specific QA/QC plans, including detailed scopes of work and procedures.
  • Implement the QA/QC plan in conjunction with the project safety strategy.
  • Build and sustain effective relationships with contractors, subcontractors, architects, consultants, and vendors to ensure compliance with the QA/QC plan.
  • Conduct inspections and testing, coordinate third-party evaluations, and analyze and report on findings.
  • Review anomalies and non-conformances stemming from fabrication, modification, and testing activities.
  • Lead acceptance reviews for ground systems, ensuring adherence to established processes.
  • Act as the Quality Assurance lead during Anomaly Review Board meetings addressing nonconforming work.
  • Facilitate the resolution of quality issues with diverse teams, leading root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives.
  • Provide quality support across various programs and work centers.
  • Perform surveillance of program processes to ensure compliance with established requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Mechanical Systems.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in Quality, Engineering, or Ground Support Systems within a program management context.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience with AWS, ASTM, and ASME codes and standards.
  • Strong communication skills, organizational abilities, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset.
  • Willingness to support program management schedules, including potential overtime.
  • Ability to cultivate trust and maintain positive, professional relationships while enhancing our culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Desired Skills:

  • Certification as a Quality Engineer from the American Society of Quality.
  • Experience in quality inspection and familiarity with inspection tools.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, materials, and installation methods.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience in aerospace, ground systems, or military/commercial aviation.
  • Familiarity with welding processes and specifications.
  • Understanding of pneumatic, cryogenic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing methods.
  • Experience with GD&T fundamentals and First Article Inspection Reports.
  • Proficiency in quality improvement tools such as Lean principles and Six Sigma.

Physical Requirements:

  • This role involves physical activity across all seasons, requiring both indoor and outdoor work.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to navigate multiple flights of stairs and work at heights.
