About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team at Guy F. Atkinson Construction, LLC. As a key member of our Estimating/Preconstruction Department, you will play a crucial role in preparing budgets and bids for our projects, as well as providing continuous preconstruction support for awarded projects.

Responsibilities
  • Professional Representation: Maintain high standards of professionalism and ethical behavior when representing the company.
  • Estimate Preparation: Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects under various delivery methods.
  • Leadership and Training: Lead or perform portions of estimates for multi-discipline projects, including understanding scope and performing accurate quantity surveys. Supervise and train other estimators in your primary area of expertise.
  • Subcontractor and Vendor Management: Solicit quotes from subcontractors and vendors, evaluate them for scope and qualifications, and lead meetings to develop complete scopes and discuss strategy.
  • Risk and Contract Management: Perform risk and contract management responsibilities as required on bids.
  • Minority Participation: Assist in developing a strategy to achieve minority participation requirements.
  • Estimate Review and Monitoring: Review total estimates to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation, and monitor comparison of estimated costs to actual costs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Research and promote continuous improvement in developing more efficient estimating methods.
Requirements
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in the heavy civil field, with a background in engineering, estimating, construction management, general management, or field engineering.
  • Software Skills: Proficient in HCSS Estimating software, Earthwork Estimating, and other industry-standard tools such as Takeoff, Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, and AGTek.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: Ability to lead or be part of a team for multiple projects and pursuits at any given time.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Communication and Technical Skills: Detail-oriented, technically sound, and excellent communication skills.
  • Estimating Knowledge: Familiarity with conceptual, detailed, and self-perform estimating.
