Job Summary:

Maternal and Family Health Services is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nutrition Counselor to join our team in Wellsboro, PA. As a key member of our WIC program, you will play a vital role in empowering women, children, and families to lead healthier lives through education, support, and quality care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collect and analyze data to determine client eligibility and perform screenings.
  • Deliver and document nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support, to ensure the delivery of WIC benefits and non-high-risk certifications.
  • Provide referrals and follow-up support to participants, consulting with NEC, CPA, Breastfeeding Coordinator, or Designated Breastfeeding Expert as needed.
  • Verify identification, residency, and income eligibility, and ask about voter registration status.
  • Conduct thorough participant assessments and document WIC risk codes.
  • Explain program purposes and procedures, provide food instruments, and schedule appointments as per guidelines.
  • Perform and record hematological and anthropometric measurements.
  • Monitor and promote nutrition education, breastfeeding, and outreach activities to support organizational and programmatic goals.
  • Communicate appointment information with participants using Text Magic.
  • Attend regular training sessions and updates as directed.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor's or associate's degree in any field or college course(s) in nutrition or dietetics recommended.
  • One year experience as a Program Assistant or Breastfeeding Peer Counselor; or one year of experience in a related field.
  • Good verbal communication skills, ability to articulate clearly and speak complete sentences using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to perform operations with units involved in measuring and weighing.
  • Basic math skills, including adding, subtraction, division, and reducing fractions.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and client-centered service delivery.
  • General understanding of medical office processes and social service delivery.
