POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, this role involves the systematic loading and unloading of materials at the yard or job site. The operator is responsible for assembling load packages for delivery to customer locations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Efficiently loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trucks, or customer vehicles, ensuring proper installation of strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent movement or damage during transport.

Conducts load-building activities, assessing the appropriate weight, composition, and arrangement of loads based on customer specifications and the delivery vehicle's capacity to ensure a balanced and secure load.

Interprets work orders or follows verbal instructions to identify materials for movement or loading.
Utilizes hand trucks, electric dollies, forklifts, or other equipment to convey materials to designated areas from storage.
Opens containers and loads materials using hand tools such as steel cutters, crowbars, or hammers.

Labels materials accurately to ensure correct identification and tracking.

Handles heavy objects manually or with powered hoists, maintaining cleanliness in the work area and assisting machine operators as needed.

May offer training and support to less experienced team members.

Adheres to all safety protocols to prevent injuries to self and colleagues; participates in safety meetings and may suggest improvements to safety practices.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

SUPERVISORY ROLE
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) along with 1-2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Forklift certification is mandatory.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Forklift operator certification is required.
Familiarity with company products to consider weight, shape, and handling needs.
Proficient reading and writing skills for managing work orders and labeling tasks.
Manual dexterity and the ability to operate simple hand tools.
Understanding of safety procedures related to forklift operation and materials handling.
Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions with common sense.
Competence in counting items and verifying against prepared lists.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands for handling or feeling, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee frequently walks and communicates verbally or audibly.
Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required.
Employees must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Specific vision capabilities required for this role include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
