Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Lead to oversee and guide our engineering projects in the utility sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct project scoping and site assessments.
  • Prepare project design estimates and proposals.
  • Collaborate with clients to support business development initiatives.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control checks on design packages, including one-lines, conduit schedules, bill of materials, layouts, relay panel arrangements, existing steel drawings, and cable lists for high voltage substations.
  • Provide technical assistance on substation protection and control as well as physical design, addressing inquiries from junior engineers.
  • Manage substation projects, which may include upgrades to breakers, bus protection, transformer replacements, RTU upgrades, line and bus work, fiber upgrades, and feeder breaker replacements.
  • Create engineering and construction estimate documents for new installations or modifications to existing substations, including bills of materials, yard layouts, plans, section views, and electrical details.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of substation ground grid, rigid and strain bus, and raceway designs.
  • Develop and modify technical specifications for major substation equipment, such as power transformers, circuit breakers, and control houses.
  • Address engineering, construction, testing, and commissioning support inquiries related to projects.
  • Perform essential calculations, including voltage drop, CT burden and saturation, lighting, and short circuit analysis.
  • Travel to various project sites as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the utility industry or demonstrated ability to perform QA/QC on substation projects.
  • Experience with Avangrid utilities is advantageous but not essential.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards, including NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI, is highly preferred.
  • A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required, though this may be waived based on experience.
