About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Design to join our team at Saturn. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the creative direction of our product and leading a team of product designers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee Product Design: Develop and implement a comprehensive design strategy that aligns with the company's overall vision and goals.
  • Lead Design Team: Manage, coach, and provide feedback to product designers to ensure they have the skills and resources needed to succeed.
  • Design and Prototype: Conceptualize, design, and prototype innovative new features, working closely with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure alignment and buy-in.
  • User Research: Conduct user research to deeply understand user needs and continuously improve existing features.
  • Design Process: Improve and direct all parts of the design process, including initial research, brainstorming, product design, visual design, design critiques, sprints, engineering hand-off, polish, and delivery.
  • Team Growth: Hire designers to scale the team as Saturn grows and evolves.
Requirements
  • Excellent Communication: Possess excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Visual Design Skills: Demonstrate outstanding visual design skills and the ability to prototype interactive mobile experiences.
  • Strategic Thinking: Show experience influencing teams and organizations through strategic thinking and communication.
  • Design Knowledge: Possess knowledge and passion for mobile app design, interaction design, and design systems.
  • Data-Informed Approach: Use a data-informed approach to complement design thinking.
  • Growth Mindset: Have a growth mindset, willingness to consistently push the limits to grow the overall business.
  • Long-Term Focus: Value patterns and structures that allow for flexibility in an evolving product.
Qualifications
  • Education: Possess a BA/BS degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • Experience: Have 5+ years of relevant mobile product design experience and 3+ years of people management experience managing product designers, including mid and senior-level designers.
  • Portfolio: Showcase a strong portfolio with past examples of mobile and consumer tech products.
  • Tools: Be proficient in Figma and have expertise in design systems.
