Medical Assistant

MedStar Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team at MedStar Health Urgent Care. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our clinical team.
Key Responsibilities- Assist providers with office procedures, patient preparation, examination, and education.
- Support the clinical care team in ensuring optimal patient flow and best-practice patient care.
- Review and prepare for scheduled patient visits, including screening patients for preventative care needs and potential barriers to care.
- Conduct motivational interviews and patient screening/coaching on disease management and care needs.
- Identify potential behavioral health needs of patients and notify providers of findings.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives to improve care quality and safety.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with infection control, safety, and environmental responsibilities.
- Perform selected patient/laboratory testing, including Point of Care Testing, tuberculosis skin testing, and electrocardiography.
- Remove sutures/staples, document activities in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR), and perform required patient follow-up.
- Provide escort/chaperoning and assist with patient discharge activities.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants within 1 year or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists within 1 year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Experience working in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent.
- Externship in a medical or ambulatory health setting strongly preferred.
