Job Summary:Climbing/Zipline Staff at the New Birth of Freedom Council will operate our 38' climbing wall and 700' zipline under the direction of the COPE/Climbing Director. As a Climbing/Zipline Staff, you will instruct Scouts in safe and proper climbing techniques, supervise Scouts while they are climbing or using the zipline, and maintain high standards for personal appearance and hygiene.
About the Role:
This is a seasonal position (mid-June to mid-August) that offers a competitive salary starting at $300/week, onsite housing, and meals. We are seeking staff with high moral character, working knowledge of Cub Scout and Scouts BSA programs, familiarity with Camp Tuckahoe facilities and traditions, auditory and oral abilities to effectively communicate, and physical ability to participate in and instruct climbing skills.
Responsibilities:
- Operate our climbing tower and zipline under the direction of the COPE/Climbing Director.
- Instruct Scouts in safe and proper climbing techniques.
- Help and supervise Scouts while they are climbing or using the zipline.
- Learn and be knowledgeable of all safety standards and procedures.
- Operate standard climbing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to all sanitation guidelines.
- Clean and maintain the climbing tower, equipment, and gear
- Providing guidance, motivation, and support to all camp visitors.
- Communicate with unit leaders, Scouts, visitors, and staff.
- Maintain high standards for personal appearance and hygiene.
- Attend all meals and camp-wide activities unless excused by the Program Director.
- Obey and enforce all applicable policies, practices, and procedures approved by the New Birth of Freedom Council and the Boy Scouts of America.
- Know, understand, and implement emergency action plans when needed.
- Relay any issues that could impact the safe and successful operation of the camp to the Area Director immediately.
- Exemplify all aspects of the Scout Oath and Law and serve as a role model for staff and Scouts.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
