We are seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team at Montefiore Medical Center. As a Histology Technician, you will play a critical role in preparing pathological slides for diagnostic procedures.

• Operate tissue processor to produce paraffin blocks and file them accordingly.
• Embed pathology specimens to ensure all layers are visible.
• Cut pathology specimens on rotary microtome.
• Stain routine Hematoxylin Eosin to view tissue sections and stain routine special stains (GMS, AFB, PAS) to identify organisms or specific tissue elements.
• Perform enzyme histochemistry (leder esterase).
• Enter orders and update LISA to bill special stains.
• Label and sign out slides to ensure accurate distribution of cases.
• Cover slipper (manual and automated) to prevent water or air bubbles under coverslips.
• Perform quality control to ensure high standards in the laboratory.
• Record equipment maintenance to ensure proper operation.
• Prepare solutions for histological processing.
• Process requests from pathology residents and attendings to ensure work orders are complete.
• Assist in immunohistochemistry procedures to identify antigens.
• File paraffin blocks and slides.
• Perform other duties as needed in the department.

• Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Life Sciences required.
• New York State Department of Education Certified Histological Laboratory Technician License or a limited permit are required. Applicants must obtain the limited permit within the probationary period of three months for continued employment.
• Experience prioritizing tissue handling, sign out of cases, and troubleshooting technical procedures are required.
• Experience working with the following equipment: Rotary microtome, Laboratory Information System, Scales, Microwave, pH meter, Automated cover slipper, Microscope, Embedding Center, Tissue processor, Water bath, Cryoplate, Incubator oven.
• Knowledge of histopathology techniques, immunohistochemistry techniques, and equipment used in Histology Laboratory required.

This position is located in the Surgical Pathology lab at the Moses campus. The hours are 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm, Monday-Friday.
