As a Pharmacy Graduate Intern at Walgreens, you will engage in post-graduate pharmacy activities under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to fulfill State Board of Pharmacy requirements. You will provide pharmacy consulting services to customers, offering guidance on medication usage, awareness of drug interactions, and preventive healthcare services such as immunizations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues in a timely manner and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers by anticipating their needs and proactively offering services.
• Participate in community events as requested by Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, District Manager, or Pharmacy Manager.
Operations:
• Counsel patients and answer their questions regarding medication usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, patient information privacy, generics, less expensive medicines, over-the-counter products, and refer to medical providers as needed to ensure medication is taken correctly and health needs are addressed.
• Perform pharmacist tasks, including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
• Ensure the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations, company policies, and standards.
People & Performance Management:
• Assist the Pharmacy Manager with staff hiring and training.
• Reinforce the direction of the Pharmacy Manager in staff performance by coaching, providing constructive feedback, monitoring customer service, and fostering employee development.
• Promote teamwork and motivate team members by establishing expectations, monitoring and recognizing progress, and fostering a shared vision.
Training & Personal Development:
• Maintain current knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare by reading pharmacy-related journals, company publications, and communications.
• Maintain awareness of developments in retail and management and pursue best practices that would enhance performance.
• Obtain necessary certifications, education credits, and training as required by the Company.
• Seek professional development by monitoring one's performance, soliciting constructive feedback, and leveraging the Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager as mentor and coach.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an accredited University outside the United States.
• Foreign Pharmacist Graduate Equivalency Certificate (FPGEC).
• Intern permit/certificate issued by the respective Board of Pharmacy, if required.
• Willingness to obtain pharmacist licensure from the respective Board of Pharmacy in the states within the district within 45 days of completion of intern hours.
• Experience performing prescription dispensing activities that demonstrate a strong working knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance laws.
• Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
