As a vital member of our team, the Art Therapist will play a crucial role in delivering art therapy sessions to older adults within a senior center environment. This position is part of a two-year pilot initiative aimed at enhancing mental health services for older adults.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct engaging group art therapy sessions utilizing various artistic mediums such as drawing, painting, and sculpting.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enroll clients in therapy groups.
- Perform assessments to evaluate clients' mental health and track progress throughout the therapy cycle.
- Facilitate discussions around clients' artwork to explore emotions and meanings.
- Design tailored art therapy programs that align with clients' individual needs and artistic preferences.
- Teach coping strategies to help clients navigate challenging experiences.
- Maintain comprehensive records of client progress and observations during sessions.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages self-expression and personal development.
- Participate in regular consultations with staff and maintain open communication with program directors.
- Master's degree in art therapy or counseling, with specialized coursework in art therapy.
- Certification from the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB).
- A minimum of two years of experience in art therapy.
- In-depth knowledge of visual arts and therapeutic techniques.
- Strong clinical skills in both individual and group therapy settings.
- Proven ability to create effective art therapy interventions for older adults.
- Excellent facilitation skills with prior experience in group settings.
- Experience working with older adults in relevant service environments.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong observational and counseling skills.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Culturally aware and capable of working with diverse populations.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and foster positive therapeutic outcomes.
- Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
