Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant

SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, the incumbent provides essential support in patient care, medical records management, and administrative tasks to assist healthcare providers during patient evaluations and treatments.

The role involves collaborating with medical professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services to all patients. Additionally, the position contributes to the collection of statistical data and monitoring of program indicators as required by regulatory bodies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following responsibilities are illustrative and not exhaustive:

  • Welcome patients warmly and guide them from the waiting area to examination rooms.
  • Prepare patients for provider evaluations by conducting brief medical histories and physical assessments; perform additional tests as directed by healthcare staff, such as pulmonary function tests, EKGs, and urine analyses.
  • Conduct basic health screenings, including vision and hearing tests, body composition analysis, blood pressure checks, temperature readings, and respiratory assessments.
  • Review patient charts prior to appointments to ensure all necessary information is available.
  • Set up examination rooms for patient visits.
  • Handle front desk responsibilities, including insurance verification, patient check-in/check-out, reminder calls, and scheduling appointments.
  • Maintain examination room supplies, inform the Site Nurse of inventory levels, and keep a list for reordering. Properly sterilize and repackage reusable equipment.
  • Utilize foreign language skills to assist patients with translation when needed.
  • Under the direct supervision of the provider, administer injections and provide patients with information regarding medications, treatments, and procedures.
  • Follow policies and procedures to maintain the confidentiality of medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Document all injections and point-of-care tests, reporting results to the appropriate clinicians or health agencies.
  • Provide health-related information to patients as directed by the provider.
  • Adhere to policies for disinfection and handling of contaminated materials, following infectious disease control protocols.
  • Answer phone calls courteously and direct them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Services, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Executive Officer, or other senior leadership team members.
  • Manage tasks related to the in-house pharmacy.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

  • Maintain a cordial and professional demeanor when interacting with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Provide thorough progress notes on chief complaints, vital signs, and in-house lab results, ensuring patients are appropriately prepared for examinations.
  • Ensure all relevant information is organized in the patient chart for efficient visits.
  • Dispose of all waste materials properly and prepare the examination area for the next patient.
  • Ensure adequate supplies are available for daily operations.
  • Provide translation services as requested, ensuring it does not interfere with primary duties.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all patient information.
  • Answer phones promptly, identifying oneself and offering assistance.
  • Be open to performing any legitimate tasks as requested by senior leadership.
  • Maintain certification status at all times.
  • Understand and be knowledgeable about all medical programs within the health center.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED. Graduation from an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program is required. Familiarity with or the ability to learn the medical center's electronic medical records (EMR) system is essential. The role encompasses various duties, thus effective patient communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary, along with proper medical record-keeping and knowledge of medical terminology. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred. Candidates should be capable of performing basic clinical skills, including vital signs assessment, examinations, and emergency response, while also providing health services information and following both oral and written instructions. A professional demeanor, sensitivity to diverse populations, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are crucial.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This is an hourly position, with a standard schedule of forty (40) hours per week, aligned with the medical center's operational hours. Extended hours may be required for certain assignments. The role involves direct exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and potential workplace hazards. Compliance with safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment, is mandatory.
