  • You will maintain cooperative and professional relationships with patients, physicians, nurses, and other office and clinical staff, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrating skill in equipment setup, utilization, and proper maintenance procedure is vital, including visual and manual quality control checks of X-ray equipment.
  • You will use imaging and peripheral equipment safely and productively, adhering to prescribed hospital, departmental, and manufacturer's procedures, and reporting any malfunctions or missing/damaged equipment to the relevant authorities.
  • In case of a medical emergency, you will recognize the situation promptly and notify the nurse, PA, or MD immediately, ensuring timely and effective intervention.
  • You will demonstrate knowledge of proper radiation safety procedures, incorporating them into all radiographic procedures to minimize patient exposure.
  • You will use gonadal shielding on all patients whenever possible, restrict the beam to the smallest area necessary without compromising image quality, and eliminate accidental exposures to x-rays by all persons.
  • You will maintain radiation detection badges and rings appropriately and return them as required.
  • You will perform transmission and/or segmentation for transmission to PACS in a complete and proper anatomic display, generating high-quality hard copies of images when necessary.
  • You will use efficient methods to complete examinations assigned in a reasonable amount of time, maintaining cleanliness of the radiographic area and preparing equipment and supplies in advance for future exams.
  • You will make alterations in your work schedule for STAT and emergency cases, adapting your work patterns to satisfy the needs of patients and medical staff.
  • You will follow special instructions indicated on radiographic requisitions, implementing patient procedures independently according to departmental protocols and standards.
  • You will explain procedures and equipment clearly to patients, answer their questions to ensure understanding, provide for patient comfort before, during, and after the procedure, and maintain ongoing rapport with patients throughout the process to alleviate anxiety.
  • You will position patients and radiographic equipment appropriately for the body part(s) to be radiographed, adjusting equipment settings accordingly to ensure maximum information is obtained.
  • You will use lead markers appropriately and follow accepted radiologic procedures to ensure that all x-rays completed are of high quality.
  • You will consider various protocols and rationale in determining radiographic positioning and technique.
  • You will identify the correct patient using two identifiers (full name and birth date), checking patients' wristbands by name to ensure ID matches examination requisition.
  • You will call patients by last name, asking them to confirm their identity by stating their first name, introducing yourself to patients, reviewing their requisition, and understanding the type of exam required by each requisition.
  • You will confer with medical staff regarding clarification when necessary, seek information or ask for assistance from your supervisor regarding difficult or questionable results, and follow accepted radiologic procedures.
  • You will recognize the need for and follow isolation precautions.
  • You will effectively assess patients' information and status, following appropriate procedures accordingly.
  • You will demonstrate knowledge of the HIS and access patient data for verification of orders, being competent in scheduling exams in RIS from the order entry queue and/or modifying exams when necessary.
  • You will have working knowledge of film library functions and follow departmental policy of documenting begin, complete, and departure times when appropriate in the RIS.
