Position Overview:

The Corporate Controller plays a pivotal role in a vibrant and expanding organization, overseeing numerous legal entities and substantial transaction volumes. This position is integral to the financial health and operational efficiency of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

The Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for the daily management of the Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll departments. This role requires a proactive leader who can inspire and develop a high-performing team.

Direct supervision will be provided to the Accounting Manager, AP Manager, and Payroll Manager, while also offering indirect oversight of the entire Accounting Department.


Strategic Planning:

The Controller must possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with a strategic mindset to guide the organization through its growth trajectory. A hands-on approach is essential when necessary.


Essential Functions:

Daily and Weekly Accounting Activities:

- Collaborate with the CFO and other direct reports to establish and achieve departmental goals.

- Provide mentorship and training to the Accounting, AP, and Payroll teams, fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment.

- Lead initiatives to identify and implement accounting tools, technologies, and best practices to enhance departmental performance.

- Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including bankers and insurance professionals.

- Oversee daily cash management to ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs.

- Develop a robust system of internal controls to safeguard financial transactions.

- Maintain an accurate chart of accounts to reflect all financial activities.


Monthly Accounting Activities:

- Supervise the month-end closing process, ensuring timely preparation and review of journal entries and reconciliations.

- Assist in the financial analysis of significant capital projects, ensuring proper accounting treatment.

- Manage access to critical accounting software and online banking systems.

- Coordinate with external parties to ensure compliance with federal grant accounting requirements.

- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to investors and bondholders.


Annual Accounting Activities:

- Collaborate with the FP&A Department to support external audits by providing necessary documentation.

- Prepare accurate financial statements for bond reporting in coordination with the finance team.

- Gather information for external CPA firms to facilitate income tax return preparation for all legal entities.

- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax reporting and filings.

- Oversee the renewal process for general liability, property, and workers' compensation insurance.

- Assist in preparing the annual budget, identifying trends and insights into financial performance.

- Prepare Annual Financial Reports (AFRs) as required by state regulations.
