About the Role

At Tampa General Hospital, we are seeking a highly skilled Surgical Nurse Specialist to join our team in the Operating Room and perioperative services. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and compassionate nurse to deliver high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.

Job Summary

We are looking for a Registered Nurse with at least two years of experience in the Operating Room to function as a first assistant or circulating nurse during operative and invasive procedures. As a Surgical Nurse Specialist, you will be responsible for planning and implementing nursing care, documenting assessments, identifying situations requiring further intervention, and communicating goal-directed plans of care. You will also be accountable for ensuring patient rights and performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality patient care in the Operating Room and perioperative services, adhering to established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines.
  • Function as a first assistant or circulating nurse during operative and invasive procedures, working collaboratively with surgeons and other healthcare professionals.
  • Plan and implement nursing care, including developing and updating individualized care plans based on patient needs and preferences.
  • Document all nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes in a timely and accurate manner, using relevant documentation systems and tools.
  • Identify and report situations requiring further intervention, such as changes in patient condition, medication errors, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams, ensuring clear understanding of treatment plans, medications, and post-operative instructions.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient operating room environment, adhering to infection control protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training programs, staying up-to-date with best practices, new technologies, and emerging trends in surgical nursing.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelors in nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
  • At least two years of experience in the Operating Room, preferably as a first assistant or circulating nurse.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required.
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
