Position Overview

The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department is seeking to fill three (3) Facility Maintenance Specialist roles.

As a member of the City of Jacksonville workforce, you will benefit from 12 paid holidays, a personal leave day, and access to comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance plans. Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cleaning duties for floors, steps, and corridors through sweeping and mopping.
  • Utilize vacuuming and shampooing techniques for carpets.
  • Execute floor maintenance tasks including stripping, sealing, waxing, and buffing.
  • Maintain cleanliness of windows, glass doors, partitions, woodwork, and walls.
  • Dust and polish furniture, equipment, machines, woodwork, shelves, and blinds.
  • Ensure restrooms are clean by sanitizing fixtures, toilets, tiles, floors, and walls.
  • Restock restroom supplies and replace light bulbs as needed.
  • Collect and dispose of waste from offices, hallways, and outdoor areas.
  • Order and manage cleaning supplies inventory.
  • Operate powered cleaning equipment and perform minor maintenance on tools.
  • Assist senior citizens with meal preparation and activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the competencies required by the City of Jacksonville.
  • Carry out additional related tasks as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Familiarity with standard tools, materials, and procedures used in janitorial work.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and safety measures associated with custodial duties.
  • Ability to read and comprehend warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Capability to follow both oral and written instructions effectively.
  • Skill in making minor repairs to cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform various labor-intensive tasks associated with custodial work.
  • Competence in operating, maintaining, and caring for cleaning equipment.
  • Willingness to travel between different locations as required.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Physical capability to move and lift cleaning equipment and furniture.
Other Information
  • The probationary period for this position is six (6) months.
  • This is a non-competitive role that does not require an examination for filling vacancies. Background checks at local, state, and federal levels are mandatory based on the assignment.
  • This position involves safety-sensitive functions and requires adherence to drug/alcohol testing protocols as per City of Jacksonville policies.
Licensing/Certification
  • A valid driver's license may be required depending on the assignment.
  • City of Jacksonville Certification as a Public Driver may be necessary based on the assignment.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification must be obtained within six months of appointment.
