Job SummaryThe Senior Legal Expert will report directly to the First Deputy Commissioner and will perform a broad scope of legal duties. This includes drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and executing contractual agreements related to fiscal and programmatic matters. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing Freedom of Information Law requests, coordinating annual conflict of interest staff trainings, and drafting waivers and other memos.

- Manage Freedom of Information Law requests in collaboration with Counsel to the Mayor's Office;
- Coordinate annual conflict of interest staff trainings and draft waivers and other memos;
- Ensure the Office is in compliance with the City's rules around record keeping in partnership with the Department of Records and Information Services (DORIS) and other designated city agencies;
To be considered for this position, applicants must have a master's degree from an accredited college or university in economics, finance, accounting, business, public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies, or a closely related field. Alternatively, a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience working in one or a combination of the following areas may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications- A JD from an ABA accredited educational institution, plus three to five years of full-time professional experience following graduation and admitted to practice law in the State of New York;
- Demonstrated ability to work on a wide variety of legal matters, with prior government, civil legal, criminal justice, and/or contracts experience;
- Familiarity with New York City law and policy, including ethics;
- Superior writing skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability in drafting contracts and/or other legal documents;
- Excellent legal judgment, strong decision-making, and leadership skills, as well as effective communication, interpersonal, collaborative, and creative problem-solving skills;
This position offers a competitive salary range of $85,000 - $115,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. The salary range may vary based on location and employer-specific factors. In addition to a salary, employees may receive benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and education assistance.
