About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced CT Technologist II to join our team at UNC Medical Center. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the advancement of medical imaging technology.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct complex CT procedures and tests to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data, working collaboratively with various teams to obtain necessary imaging for advanced diagnoses.
  2. Assist radiologists in performing high-risk invasive diagnostic techniques, such as needle biopsies and CT-guided joint injections, while demonstrating competence and contributing input for alternative approaches and adjustment of scan parameters to limit radiation dosage.
  3. Evaluate contra-indications, notify care teams, and coordinate appropriate care prior to patient arrival, when possible.
  4. Perform CTA perfusion, Code IA/Stroke/Bat, Red Trauma Series, Yellow Trauma Series, ROSC, and Portable CT procedures, as defined by procedure and/or physician, while training CT Tech I team members on these and other high-risk exams/procedures.
  5. Recognize diagnostic characteristics of normal and abnormal scans, anatomy, and questionable findings, alerting radiologists for escalation of and/or additional care.
  6. Demonstrate ability to manipulate parameters for CT Gated Watchman and Cardiac exams, including proper manipulation of monitoring devices and competency manipulating both equipment and computer parameters.
  7. Analyze scan data throughout the examination to ensure a comprehensive exam is completed and sufficient data is provided to the physician, along with any notes regarding complications that may have impacted quality of scan/images.
  8. Triage care for general anesthesia (adult/pediatric) exams and provide education for care teams, ensuring optimal parameters, equipment settings, contrast administration, and post-processing of images.
  9. Obtain images per protocols, manipulate images according to protocols, perform multi-planar and 3D reconstruction of image data, demonstrate a thorough knowledge of CT algorithms, and select appropriate window and level setting according to anatomy.
  10. Administer oral and rectal contrast to adult and pediatric patients according to protocols, establish intravenous lines, administer IV contrast following safe and proper injection procedures, and follow correct procedure to determine contrast eligibility, checking appropriate lab values before contrast injection per protocol.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science with an advanced registry in Computed Tomography.
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiological Sciences or registry eligibility, with provision of a copy of diploma from accredited program for registry eligible candidates.
  • Advanced certification in CT.
  • Maintenance of registry status and continuing education requirements annually.
  • Current competency in HCP BLS.
  • Three years of experience as a CT Technologist.
