Position Overview:

As a Certified Medication Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting residents with their daily medication needs.

Essential Qualifications for Medication Technician:

  • Completion of High School or equivalent educational attainment.
  • Prior experience in Healthcare, Geriatric Care, or working with senior populations is advantageous.
  • Ability to adapt to various personalities and circumstances.
  • Understanding of dementia-related challenges is essential.
  • Acknowledgment that mistakes can have significant repercussions for residents.
  • Exhibit patience, tact, a positive demeanor, and enthusiasm while assisting residents according to their cognitive capabilities.
  • Minimum age requirement of 18 years.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid is mandatory.
  • Possession of a valid CMA certification is required.
  • Must have a clear TB test result.

Key Responsibilities for Medication Technician:

  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare professionals, adhering to established protocols.
  • Confirm the identity of residents prior to medication administration.
  • Comply with hand hygiene protocols, universal precautions, and infection control measures.
  • Order medications, supplies, and equipment as needed, following established guidelines.
  • Remove outdated or discontinued medications from carts and resident areas as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate medication records for your shift and ensure accountability for keys.
  • Review medication documentation for thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Report any discrepancies related to physician orders, medication counts, or unusual occurrences to your supervisor.
  • Document necessary information in accordance with community policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge processes of residents as required.
  • Review medical charts for specific treatment, medication, and dietary orders as needed.
  • Notify the supervising nurse of any changes in resident conditions, including refusals of medication or treatment.
  • Ensure that workspaces, including medication carts and treatment areas, are kept clean and sanitary.
  • Consistently demonstrate courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude towards residents, their families, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Report any accidents or incidents that occur during your shift and immediately report any suspected abuse.
  • Document significant events in the 24-hour report.
  • Assist residents with daily living activities.
  • Encourage the social engagement of each resident.
  • Support light housekeeping tasks, such as emptying trash and changing linens.
  • Accompany residents to and from dining areas and assist with dining-related tasks as needed.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by your supervisor to uphold the dignity, respect, and safety of each resident while adhering to all applicable regulations.

General Working Conditions:

This role requires prolonged periods of standing. While executing job responsibilities, the employee must effectively communicate with others, sit, stand, walk, and utilize hands for various tasks. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential. The employee may occasionally need to reach, push, or pull equipment and may lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. The work environment necessitates appropriate interaction with others, and the noise level is typically moderate. Occasional travel to different locations may be necessary.
