Job Summary

ASRC Federal Field Services, a subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is seeking a highly skilled Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering input, design, and oversight to projects assigned, including new construction, renovations, facility modifications, and utility systems installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Develop solutions to facility and equipment operations, prepare cost estimates, and subcontract bid packages.
  • Plan projects from design through completion, prepare project documentation, and present to stakeholders for approval.
  • Manage projects to ensure work remains safe and on schedule and budget while adhering to appropriate biosafety integrity.
  • Supervise and direct maintenance, trades, and subcontractor personnel assigned to projects.
  • Ensure quality performance in the execution of various work projects and manage project budget and schedule.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field.
  • Proficiency in organizing presentations, communicating with management and staff, problem-solving, and providing excellent customer service.
  • Verbal and written skills to allow effective communication with all levels of personnel and customers.
  • Capability to multi-task by supporting several simultaneous assignments.
  • Ability to use appropriate PPE, such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection.
  • Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment that may include loud noise and heat stress.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Tools and CAD systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Up to two years' experience with design, operations, and/or maintenance of buildings and utilities in the service industry, preferably in a biomedical, powerplant, hospital, healthcare, or research laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance with OSHA, local, state, and federal policies and laws, fire and related codes.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including boilers, generators, chillers, HVAC, water treatment, wastewater treatment, buildings, and roofs.
  • Experience with project management and work management processes.
