Job Summary

The County of Vilas is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the WIC Director/Nutrition Coordinator. This is a critical role that requires strong leadership, nutrition expertise, and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program that meets the nutritional needs of the target population.
  • Provide nutrition education and lactation expertise to WIC participants, ensuring that services are evidence-based and best practices are followed.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant nutrition practice guidelines, state WIC policies, and federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Manage public complaints and inquiries related to the WIC program and other nutrition-related services.
  • Participate in the development and revision of agency policies and procedures to support WIC and nutrition goals.
  • Evaluate program nutrition education needs and determine annual nutrition education plans.
  • Approve and document participant need for special formulas and food packages according to physician's orders.
  • Serve as a preceptor for dietetic interns and provide orientation to the WIC program for students in other healthcare disciplines.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate annual nutrition performance objectives.
  • Determine participants' WIC eligibility based on nutrition risk and utilize motivational interviewing and VENA philosophy to determine nutrition and health needs.
  • Chart results of health and diet screening, education, and care plans in the WIC Real-time Online Statewide Information Environment (ROSIE).
  • Provide follow-up appointments for high-risk participants and participate in quality improvement processes to ensure efficient and effective delivery of related programs and services.
  • Develop relevant objectives for the agency Performance Management Plan and work with program staff to address deficiencies in outcomes.
Requirements
  • Previous WIC program experience preferred.
  • Adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, such as those concerning exposure to bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, airborne pathogens, or exposure to other hazards.
  • Assists with development of program budgets and monitors budget compliance.
  • Completes required breastfeeding training within twelve (12) months of hire and participates in ongoing training to maintain Breastfeeding Coordinator certification.
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by pursuing education, participating in professional committees and work groups, and contributing to a work environment where continual improvements in practice are pursued.
  • Attends regular staff meetings, training, and other meetings as assigned.
  • Performs public health emergency response duties as assigned and participates as part of the Incident Command Structure in planning, training, and exercising for emergencies.
  • Works to support the mission of the department and adheres to the core values as described in the most current agency strategic plan.
  • Responsible to know and practice the Safety Policies of the County.
