We are seeking a part-time faculty member to teach studio art and art education courses in our Department of Art and Art History. The successful candidate will have a strong background in art education and experience teaching a range of courses, including studio art and theories of art education.
Responsibilities- Teach studio art and art education courses to students in the BA Art—Preparation for Teaching major and others interested in art education.
- Develop and implement curriculum that addresses the needs of a diverse student population.
- Participate in faculty meetings and provide assessment data and information to the department.
- Supervise single subject credential candidates in Art and provide guidance on CalTPA teaching events.
- Observe and submit observation reports for each student teacher/intern a minimum of 6 times per semester.
- Guide student teachers regarding the timing of their CalTPA teaching events and mediate communication between student teachers and mentor teachers.
- Submit Formative and Summative Evaluations to Subject Area Advisor.
- Attend supervisor/mentor teacher trainings or professional development workshops offered through the Single Subject Credential Program.
- Master of Arts degree in Art Education or equivalent degree.
- California Single Subject Credential in Art.
- At least two years teaching art in K-12 public schools.
- Demonstrated ability to teach all levels of Art Education classes to art education undergraduates and other students.
- Thorough knowledge of single subject credentialing requirements for elementary and secondary art teachers in the state of California.
- Strong working knowledge of the California Arts Standards for Public Schools, Prekindergarten Through Grade Twelve (2019) and the California Arts Education Framework for Public Schools Transitional kindergarten Through Grade Twelve (2020).
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Knowledge of image making and visual exploration using traditional and digital media arts.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues in a multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary environment.
