Responsibilities
The Surgical Services Nurse is accountable to the Operating Room Charge Nurse and the Director of Surgical Services, with indirect accountability to the House Supervisor. This role involves delivering both direct and indirect patient care in the surgical environment, utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for patients across all age groups.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating patient care with surgical teams, including surgeons and anesthesiologists.
- Providing guidance and support to surgical technicians and other staff members while upholding professional nursing standards.
- Collaborating with various departments to ensure a seamless continuum of care.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives, team meetings, and educational in-services.
- Acting as a resource for colleagues as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
1. Valid and current state RN License.
2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire and maintenance of certification.
3. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 30 days of hire and must be maintained.
4. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within 30 days of hire and must be maintained.
5. A minimum of one year of prior experience in a surgical setting or equivalent training.
6. Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification preferred.
7. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
