About the Position

As a Police Officer with the City of Galt, you will play a vital role in maintaining public safety and serving the community. Under general supervision, you will perform a wide range of duties, including patrol and community policing, responding to emergency calls, and enforcing laws and ordinances.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol the City in a vehicle or on foot to protect life and property, observe situations, and report suspicious activity.
  • Respond to emergency calls, disturbances, thefts, burglaries, vehicle accidents, and other incidents to protect public safety and property.
  • Provide information, directions, and assistance to the public, take reports, and assist with complaints or unusual situations.
  • Observe, monitor, and control traffic situations, stop and warn drivers, or issue citations as appropriate.
  • Makes arrests and serves warrants, takes individuals into custody, and transports them to booking facilities.
  • Assist in crime scene activities, interview suspects, victims, and witnesses, collect and preserve evidence, and prepare cases for court.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, logs, records, and accurate files, and oversee the use and care of equipment.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of law enforcement principles, practices, and techniques, including patrol, traffic enforcement, accident investigation, and crime scene processing.
  • Ability to observe accurately, recall faces, names, and descriptive characteristics, and make sound, independent decisions in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment, and maintain P.O.S.T. physical standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the telephone, and in writing, and establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public and co-workers.
