Daily Responsibilities

As a Ranger - Animal Control Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and welfare of both residents and animals. Your daily tasks will encompass:

  • Apprehending and managing loose or dangerous animals
  • Responding to citizen inquiries
  • Enforcing animal and park regulations
  • Collaborating with Police Officers on animal-related cases
  • Investigating reports of animal cruelty
  • Mediating disputes
  • Administering vaccinations
  • Coordinating with the Health Department for public safety initiatives

This role also provides opportunities to educate the community, testify in court, and participate in special events, making it a dynamic and rewarding experience for those passionate about animal welfare and community service.

Qualifications

To thrive in this position, candidates should have a solid understanding of animal control regulations, animal care principles, municipal ordinances, and departmental policies. Proficiency in operating animal control equipment and safely capturing various animal species is crucial. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective public interaction, along with excellent oral and written communication abilities to clearly convey laws, policies, and procedures.

By integrating your knowledge of animal welfare practices with practical enforcement and community engagement skills, you will play a vital role in enhancing the safety and harmony of O'Fallon's community and its diverse wildlife population.
