About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Geospatial Linguist to join our team at Leidos. This is a unique opportunity to utilize your expertise in foreign languages and romanization policies to maintain the federal government's official repository of foreign geographic names.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and integrate information related to Foundation feature data within the Geographic Names Database (GNDB) and other repositories while collaborating closely with geographic names experts.
  • Utilize BGN and customer guidelines to address inquiries regarding proper name applications, using various romanization systems and handling descriptive information on map products.
  • Accurately input and maintain data within the GNDB, ensuring the precision and reliability of geographic names for federal and international users.
  • Conduct research, acquisition, scanning, and geo-referencing of hydrographic and topographic sources, alongside supporting textual and commercial imagery to enhance geographic accuracy.
  • Interpret and implement policies from BGN, the Department of State (DoS), NATO, and other relevant organizations regarding the treatment of names.
  • Engage in research using ArcGIS Pro and QGIS software, as well as common business software to create shapefiles, geo-databases, and support data retrieval/storage.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Norwegian at a minimum level of ILR 2/2.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with less than 2 years of relevant experience.
  • US Citizenship required and must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience with GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
  • BASIC understanding of Geographic Names collection methodologies.
  • Experience producing GEOINT products.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment both as part of a team and independently.
  • Strong research and information gathering skills.
  • Knowledge of GEOINT sources and experience with various types of mapping imagery.
  • Proficient in creating shapefiles and geo-databases, including data storage and retrieval.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, demonstrating clarity and accuracy in English.

Salary Information:

The estimated salary for this position is $44,200 - $79,900 per year, based on the location and industry standards.
