Metadata Specialist

Alpha Omega Integration, LLC is seeking a highly skilled Metadata Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Data Stewardship Division, you will play a critical role in maintaining the availability and integrity of meteorological, climatological, and environmental, geospatially-referenced data for use by customers worldwide.

• Document new or revised archive projects using standard templates and provide weekly status reports on project progress.
• Coordinate Archive Implementation and Maintenance requirements with internal and external stakeholders, translating project requirements to subject matter experts and operators.
• Support Data Set Readiness Reviews (DSRR) to ensure NCEI is prepared to ingest, archive, and provide access to new and updated archive requests.
• Assist in assessing the completeness and appropriateness of new data archive requests in alignment with NOAA mission priorities.
• Operate project management tools (Jira, Google Docs and Sheets) for task status, issue tracking, and scheduling.
• Develop, create, and maintain metadata for data granules and collection metadata records, ensuring adherence to accepted Federal and international standards for data storage, accessibility, metadata, interoperability, and long-term preservation.
• Develop, create, and maintain Data Stewardship Maturity Model assessments, related metadata, and Data Stewardship Maturity Reports (DSMR).
• Support data providers and managers by providing guidance on archive-related tools, templates, checklists, standards, and processes.
• Assist NCEI data managers with requests to update operational archive records.

• Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 to 4 years of experience in a related area, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of data formats (e.g., XML, JSON, NetCDF) and experience using Microsoft Windows and Google's G-Suite applications.

• Experience working with metadata, specifically metadata standards such as ISO.
• Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
• Experience using Amazon Web Service (AWS).
• Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence.
• Experience in scripting languages (e.g., Python or command line scripting) for metadata processing.
• Experience in cloud migration projects, with expertise in metadata translation and mapping to cloud-based metadata schemas.
