About the Role:

Carpenter Technology Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Control Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our automation and controls group, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing control systems for our equipment and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development:
    • Identify and understand the company's needs related to control systems.
    • Analyze data to identify areas for improvement.
    • Implement solutions to enhance control system efficiency.
  • Technical Support and Mentorship:
    • Provide technical support to junior engineers and team members.
    • Serve as a mentor, sharing expertise and guiding less experienced colleagues.
    • Work with maintenance to remedy breakdowns.
  • System Configuration and Optimization:
    • Configure, standardize, and optimize control systems for equipment and processes.
    • Define system requirements and participate in system configuration.
    • Act as a liaison between end-users and system developers and OEM's.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Project Management:
    • Develop and execute projects from start to finish, ensuring successful implementation.
    • Define project scopes, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
    • Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful execution.
    • Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of control systems.
    • Manage project costs, schedules, and budgets.
    • Develop business cases where automation and control upgrades can improve the throughput and costs for a given work center or process.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience working in the controls and automation industry.
  • Experience in the steel automation industry.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with engineering-related software.
  • Knowledge of lean principles.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming is required. Familiarity with Rockwell and Siemens controllers is preferred.
  • HMI development is required. Familiarity with Aveva InTouch is preferred.
  • AC and DC drive knowledge required.
  • Expertise with EtherNet/IP, Industrial Ethernet, and Profibus networks (CAN) is valuable.
  • Knowledge of automated equipment systems, robotics, and material handling is preferred.
