About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Psychiatric Nurse to join our team at the University of New Mexico - Hospitals. This is a full-time position that requires heavy work exertion, and you must be able to move objects or people.

Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per year

Job Description

This role involves providing professional nursing care for assigned patients in a mental health/psychiatric environment. You will design nursing care plans and assist in the development of overall care plans for psychiatric patients. Your primary goal is to ensure administration of appropriate overall care in a manner conducive to recovery.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, as they will interact with various stakeholders, including physicians, medical students, staff, patients, families, and community members. They will also provide emotional support and act as an advocate for patients and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview, examine, and assess the health status of psychiatric patients with various cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders.
  • Observe patient behavior, activities, and mental status; perform triage and crisis intervention.
  • Write treatment plans; coordinate patient drug and procedure activities; administer medication and treatment; provide and coordinate nursing care of assigned patients; may facilitate group therapy and/or education sessions.
  • Chart and report observed symptoms, reactions, treatments, and changes in the patients' conditions; collect and document data and information; may perform computerized data entry.
  • Perform nursing intakes, draw blood and other patient specimens; may perform or coordinate laboratory tests.
  • Provide information and facilitate communication between physicians, medical students, staff, patients, families, and community; coordinate and consult with a milieu of service providers.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A RN license in NM or reciprocal agreement by NM.
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provision or Professional Rescuers within 30 days.
  • Experience working directly in a similar field for at least one year (not applicable if qualifications include a Bachelor's degree).
