Fleet Mechanic Job Description

Hennepin County's Transportation Operations department is seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to join its team. As a Fleet Mechanic, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and performing diagnostics on a variety of equipment, including hybrid, electric, gas cars and pickups, emergency vehicles, medium and heavy-duty gas or diesel trucks, construction equipment, and more.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform detailed preventive maintenance on complex systems, following manuals and established maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Diagnose and repair complex systems using diagnostic equipment and procedures.
  • Perform emergency and planned field repairs, as well as pre-delivery and setup of new vehicles.
  • Document and record all repairs using the fleet management information system.
  • Perform mandatory regulated inspections, tests, and operations to ensure safe and proper operation on all County vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
Requirements:
  • Class A driver's license
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) master's in automotive or heavy truck
  • Night shift differential pay
About the Position:

This is a full-time, benefit-earning position with a base hourly wage of $33.75 per hour. The position is internally classified as an Equipment Mechanic Journeyman. For more information, click here to view the job classification specification.

This position requires candidates to be available for on-call duty after hours, weekends, and holidays. The work hours are 2 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday. This position is located at the Public Works Facility, at 1600 Prairie Drive, Medina, Minnesota. There is no public transportation to this facility.
