Outreach Independent Living Specialist West 35th Street

Job Summary:

Bowery Residents Committee (BRC) is seeking an Outreach Independent Living Specialist to join our team. As an Outreach Independent Living Specialist, you will provide comprehensive case management services to identified chronic homeless individuals, working with them to overcome housing barriers and secure entitlements.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide case management services to assigned clients, including regular meetings and assessments to identify barriers to housing
  • Assist clients in securing entitlements and developing individualized housing plans
  • Work with clients to progress on housing plans, building a network of support services
  • Prepare clients for housing interviews and arrange housing appointments
  • Liaise with clinical staff in other BRC programs or outside organizations regarding common clients
  • Participate in case conferences as necessary
Requirements:
  • BA in a related field preferred
  • Significant experience working in outreach or case management strongly preferred
  • Strong interest in providing direct services to homeless and/or mentally ill and substance abusing populations
  • Experience in referring clients to substance abuse programs, mental health programs, entitlements, and work readiness programs
  • Ability to assess and recognize signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance abuse
  • Good writing and oral communication skills
  • Computer literacy required
  • Ability to work in a high-stress/volume environment, maintaining communication with the clinical team
  • Bilingual preferred, including Spanish, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Korean, or other languages
  • Valid state driver's license if a driver
  • CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR
