About University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children's Pediatric Cardiac ICU:

Our Pediatric Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) is equipped with cutting-edge medical technology, dedicated to providing exceptional care for a variety of congenital and pediatric heart conditions. We cater to both pre- and post-operative patients, as well as those with non-surgical cardiac issues such as cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, and arrhythmias.

Moreover, our CTICU is tasked with the critical care of young patients experiencing heart failure who may require advanced mechanical support, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) or ventricular assist devices (VAD).

Key Responsibilities

Deliver safe and efficient nursing care tailored to the age-specific needs of patients and their families, utilizing the nursing process to help them achieve and maintain optimal health.

Core Duties

  • Apply the nursing process to provide effective, relationship-based care.
  • Exhibit technical proficiency in care delivery that ensures safety and positive patient outcomes.
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively to enhance patient care and clinical operations.
  • Engage in personal development and contribute to the nursing profession.
  • Demonstrate leadership that promotes optimal clinical and operational results.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and standards.
  • Refer to departmental documentation provided during orientation for specific responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations regarding the secure handling of Protected Health Information (PHI). Annual training and adherence to the organization's Code of Conduct and policies are mandatory.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of licensed inpatient RN experience is required, with a preference for candidates with experience in inpatient Cardiac, ICU, ED, or pediatric nursing.
  • Completion of a Diploma or Associate's Degree in nursing from an accredited program is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficient understanding of nursing processes and practices.
  • Ability to operate a variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and deliver prescribed clinical therapies (e.g., stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers, and electronic monitoring devices).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio is required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required based on clinical area standards.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be required based on clinical area standards.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Occasional climbing and balancing.
  • Constantly engaging in repetitive motions and maintaining eye/hand/foot coordination.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel may be required up to 10%.
