Job Summary

As a Psychiatric Physician Assistant at Kansas Employer, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality behavioral health services to our patients. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate professional to join our multidisciplinary team in a collaborative role with a responsible psychiatrist for adults and older adults.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide outpatient medication evaluations and medication checks to our patient population.
• Monitor and adjust medication types and doses, per protocol.
• Assess, diagnose, and make recommendations for physical ailments that arise during treatment, as needed.
• Document all psychiatric evaluations and medication management appointments in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) within specified time frames.
• Take primary responsibility for the Medication Reconciliation process for outpatients seen for medication management.
• Maintain contact with families of patients, as appropriate.
• Order appropriate screening and laboratory tests, as needed.
• Serve as a consultant to other clinicians and Prairie View staff.
• Collaborate with other staff members for evaluation and treatment.
• Provide weekend and/or weekday call coverage, if agreed upon.
• Maintain clinical outcomes within Prairie View standards.
• Utilize Prairie View resources in a cost-effective manner.
• Actively participate in ensuring that CMS and The Joint Commission requirements are met in the outpatient setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Physician Assistant degree; must have and maintain a PA category license from Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.
• Minimum experience working with adults, older adults, children/adolescents for clinical assessments, psychopharmacologic prescribing by protocol.
• Competent in observing, interviewing, and assessing patients to formulate a diagnosis using current DSM criteria.
• Possess basic psychotherapeutic skills to establish patient/clinician relationships.
• Sufficient psychopharmacologic knowledge to effectively manage psychiatric illness.
• Competent in recognizing side effects, adverse drug reactions, and drug-drug interactions, especially as it pertains to psychotropic medications.
• Desire to work within the Prairie View multi-disciplinary team structure.
• Good listening skills, verbal skills, and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, staff, and multidisciplinary treatment team members.
• Working knowledge of the principles of managed care.
• Basic computer skills to utilize email and navigate the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Willing and able to provide psychiatry support to providers in the community, if needed.
