Aquatic Safety Specialist

The YMCA is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Aquatic Safety Specialist to join our team. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and positive atmosphere in the pool area, ensuring the well-being of our members and guests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain active surveillance of the pool area to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment.
  • Respond to emergency situations promptly and in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Know and review all emergency procedures to ensure preparedness.
  • Remain calm and objective when under pressure or challenged by others.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
  • Perform cleaning, putting in lane lines, and other duties as assigned when not guarding.
  • Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and take appropriate action.
Requirements:
  • Minimum age of 15 with a support lifeguard.
  • Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
  • Child abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Trainings, immunizations, etc. required by childcare licensing.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
