The Conductor/ Switchman position at Watco Transloading is a critical role that requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. As a Conductor/ Switchman, you will be responsible for controlling and coordinating train movements, ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of railcars in a yard or industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control and coordinate train movements to facilitate the unloading and loading of railcars
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of train crews
  • Read and understand switching orders and instructions from management or customers
  • Communicate effectively with crew members and other yard workers via radio or hand signals
  • Confer with train dispatchers to issue or receive information or instructions concerning stops, delays, or oncoming trains
  • Perform other duties as requested or required

Requirements

  • High school education or general education development (GED)
  • Ability to pass training and required testing
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor tasks

Work Environment

The Conductor/ Switchman position requires working in a yard or industrial setting, which may involve exposure to outside weather conditions, noise, and fumes from gas, oil, and grease. The team member must be able to work in a safe and efficient manner, following all safety protocols and procedures.
