Summary:

Director:

Develops and implements curriculum, personnel, and procedures for the Dental Assisting program. Ensures program meets State Board requirements and maintains familiarity with Dental Board of California rules and regulations.

Instructor:

Provides instruction in the program, including collegiate transfer and pre-collegiate basic skills courses. May include day, evening, online, and/or hybrid teaching assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain program policies and procedures.
  • Conduct on-going program review.
  • Provide staff development for Dental faculty.
  • Develop agendas, conduct staff meetings, and keep minutes.
  • Schedule staff and facilities for clinical rotations.
  • Provide detailed interim reports including statistics for state program.
  • Direct the selection, counseling, evaluation, and dismissal of students from the program.
  • Attend regularly scheduled director meetings.
  • Update curriculum, instructional plans, and lesson plans to meet state regulations.
  • Update applications for the Dental programs.
  • Conduct annual advisory board meetings.
  • Complete and submit all required reports to Dental Board of California.
  • Maintain all State Dental Board required documents and records and communicate with Board as appropriate.
  • Schedule for clinical facility rotations.
  • Responsible for general oversight of the campus dental learning clinic.

Instructor Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instruct assigned classes in accordance with the course outline of record.
  • Provide dynamic instruction with the ability to engage student interest by using current and effective andragogy.
  • Meet faculty responsibilities as outlined in the faculty contract.
  • Review, in cooperation with other faculty in the same subject area, textbooks, required reading, workbooks, and other materials.
  • Maintain accurate and current records of student attendance and student achievement in accordance with District procedures.
  • Demonstrate continuing education toward maintaining currency with developments and changes in subject-matter field through coursework, conferences, workshops, seminars, professional training, and professional reading.
  • Serve on standing and ad hoc committees, as assigned by the Academic Senate.
  • Supervise the care and maintenance of equipment provided for student use in classes.
  • Attend graduation ceremonies.
  • Fulfill flex obligation.
  • Participate in and complete Instructional Program Review.
  • Report absences to the appropriate Educational Administrator.
  • Direct the work of classified staff as appropriate to the assignment.
  • Direct the work of Student workers as appropriate to the assignment and as agreed to in the request made by the faculty member for a student worker and subsequent approval of that request.
  • Submit grade rosters to the Registrar's office within five (5) District business days after the last day of finals and complete all attendance rosters and other administrative forms as scheduled.
  • Participate in Student Learning Outcome (SLO) Assessment.
  • Participate in the use of the Electronic Early Alert System as appropriate.
