Job Summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Early Childhood Educator to join our team. As a Co-Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing a nurturing environment that fosters social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth in children aged 0-5.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement the program curriculum for morning and afternoon classes, planning individual and group activities to stimulate learning and promote parent involvement.
  • Work collaboratively with the Co-Teacher and Family Advocate to provide information and resources to enrolled families.
  • Integrate various Head Start services into the learning environment, including parent involvement, social services, nutrition, health, and mental health services.
  • Conduct daily classroom planning, maintain accurate records, and submit timely paperwork.
  • Observe, screen, and assess child development levels, developing goals that relate to individual children's needs.
  • Provide a planned program of activities that supports and enhances the role of parents as the prime educators of their children.
  • Ensure a learning environment that reflects the diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children and the larger communities.
  • Meet state and local licensing requirements and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 24 CD units in Early Child Education/Child Development
  • Experience working with children
  • Ability to interact with children in a busy environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, frequent kneeling and squatting, and ability to move quickly
Preferred Qualifications
  • AA in ECE/CD with 24 units in CD OR AA in related field with 24 CD units, including 6 units of infant/toddler for EHS
  • Associate Teacher Child Development Permit or higher
  • 1 year of teaching experience
  • Creative curriculum
  • Bilingual English and Spanish (written and verbal)
