Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will provide medical care to mentally ill patients at Forrest General Hospital. This role requires a strong understanding of psychiatric nursing principles and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assess patients and diagnose mental illnesses
* Prescribe medications within approved protocols
* Provide therapy and collaborate with psychiatrists on patient care
* Educate patients and families on mental health and wellness
Requirements:
* Current nursing license from Mississippi State Board of Nursing
* Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing
* At least 700 clinical practice hours with supervision
Work Environment:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will work in a hospital setting, providing care to patients in the clinic, inpatient, and residential areas. This role requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care.
Performance Expectations:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of clinic procedures, rules, and regulations, as well as the ability to use good judgment in making decisions regarding daily operations. Additionally, they will be expected to accurately gather patient health information, coordinate patient care, and stay current on the latest medical updates.
Communication Skills:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will consistently communicate in a friendly, courteous, and compassionate manner with patients, families, visitors, and employees. They will also provide accurate diagnostic assessments, recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental illness, and refer patients to physicians as needed.
Leadership and Collaboration:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will demonstrate leadership and collaboration skills, working effectively with physicians, nurse practitioners, patient care managers, and other ancillary staff to ensure appropriate patient care. They will also participate in department planning, decision-making, policy formation, and education, and provide leadership and serve as a role model for staff.
Education and Certification:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will be a graduate of a recognized non-online RN program and will have successfully completed a Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. They will also be certified as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or other approved National Credentialing Agency.
