Overview:


The Tissue Preparation Specialist is responsible for executing intricate histological techniques essential for the processing of patient tissue samples intended for microscopic evaluation and analysis by a Pathologist.

These techniques encompass receiving, mounting, slicing, and staining specimens. All operations comply with regulatory standards and adhere to stringent quality control protocols, ensuring accurate identification of issues that may impact diagnostic outcomes and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:


Efficiently receives and logs surgical and cytological specimens while ensuring safety; addresses accessioning concerns and seeks clarification when necessary.

Alerts Supervisor regarding unresolved matters.


Conducts and documents preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment, including thorough cleaning, to uphold superior laboratory service quality.

Delivers specialized staining services as requested, ensuring timely and high-quality results. Diligently maintains comprehensive records of quality control for staining processes and equipment upkeep.

Organizes and maintains complete files of tissue samples, blocks, and slides for easy access. Safely disposes of wet tissue after a designated period.

Prepares cytological specimens for microscopic analysis.

Precisely embeds, slices, prepares slides, and stains tissue sections in a safe manner for pathological assessment.

Assists in monitoring inventory and supplies, notifying the Supervisor when reordering is necessary.


Adheres to the clinical laboratory's quality control policies while performing, documenting, and troubleshooting all quality control activities. Provides instruction and training in theoretical knowledge, technical skills, safety protocols, and laboratory practices to students and staff.

Issues that cannot be resolved are promptly reported to the Supervisor, Manager, or Director.

Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned by the department.

Qualifications:
An Associate's Degree in Histology or Clinical Laboratory Science is required.

A Histology Technologist License in Florida (or eligibility for licensure) is required.
