Job Summary

The Production Engineer is responsible for leading unit activities to meet Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality, Food Safety, Cost, and Production goals. This role requires a deep understanding of unit operating procedures and processes to provide analysis, instruction, planning, and collaboration with others to meet daily production plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead unit activities to meet Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality, Food Safety, Cost, and Production goals.
  • Provide technical support for specific manufacturing units, including monitoring performance metrics, OEE data, troubleshooting, and investigating product quality problems.
  • Manage unit Process Safety Management aspects, including Management of Change and Pre-startup Safety Review processes.
  • Lead and/or participate in incident investigations using Root Cause Failure Analysis and other tools.
  • Provide unit subject matter expertise and process knowledge to all functions.
  • Coordinate unit maintenance activities using the Work Management Process and collaborate with Maintenance staff.
  • Coordinate and communicate unit daily activities, including issuing the Unit's Daily Plan.
  • Provide expertise in starting up and shutting down the plant for planned and unplanned circumstances.
  • Assist the Unit Manager in developing plans to ensure cost-effective use of assets.
  • Use Six Sigma and other defect elimination tools and lean tools to find solutions.
  • Provide coaching and counseling for FLS and Co-Ops, and mentor other professionals to improve the organization's skills.
  • Establish effective communications systems throughout the unit to share information and engage employees in the success of the facility.
  • Perform job duties in a manner that follows food safety and quality guidelines, including HACCP, GMPs, QA Policies, Sanitation, and Pest Control.
Requirements
  • Chemical or mechanical engineering degree with 2 years or greater of experience in an industrial environment and/or process engineering role.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data, identify solutions, assess risk factors, and make sound business decisions.
  • Familiarity with Process Safety Management practices, including MOC and PSSR.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and role model strong safety standards.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft applications and learn other computer systems/databases.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of solids drying technologies, wastewater pH control, and wastewater solids processing.
  • Experience with capital project management, including development through execution.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulatory reporting.
  • Familiarity with Work Management Process and maintenance best practices.
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Failure Analysis.
  • Ability to use key computer-based tools, including SAP, SharePoint, ETQ Reliance, and Lotus Notes.
  • Six Sigma Certification, Lean Manufacturing Methodology, and Continuous Improvement Knowledge.
