Job Summary

As an Acrylic Fabricator at NORDAM, you will be responsible for applying technical skills and knowledge to perform acrylic fabrication and assembly of transparent materials, as well as preparation and cleaning of airplane components. You will work in a fast-paced environment, utilizing high-volume manufacturing techniques and acrylic capacity to support aircraft manufacturers and global operators with line-fit and aftermarket spare cabin windows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform simple to moderately complex developmental learning assignments and apply standard solutions to work situations of a generally routine or repetitive nature.
  • Operate hand tools and equipment such as buffers and sanders to finish acrylic parts to customer specifications.
  • Clean and inspect transparencies (windows) for defects before inspection.
  • Set-up oven and autoclave for forming process.
  • Unload tools and inspect for defects.
  • Use forklift and hand truck to transport acrylic parts.
  • Cut acrylic parts using hand tools such as band saws and routers.
  • Use measuring tools to check contour of parts after cutting.
  • Ensure parts are clean and ready for packaging, assemble boxes and apply die-cuts.
  • Verify batch number with material and paperwork to ensure accuracy.
  • Operate Maverick machinery to polish transparencies.
  • Operate Robot machinery to polish transparencies.
  • Using extreme care, handle and clean transparencies (windows) using solvents.
  • Operate laser machines to etch identification numbers on parts.
  • Assemble transparencies (windows) and seals, apply die-cuts, use stamps or printer to identify parts.
  • Inspect panes for defect.
  • Perform in-line inspection of transparencies (windows) to customer specifications ensuring compliance.
  • Operate hand tools and equipment such as laser, drill press and polishing equipment.
  • Prepare room for coating application donning appropriate equipment (respirator, etc.); cleaning to specifications and equipment set-up.
  • Operate hand tools and equipment such as spin coater and flow coating booth to apply coating to panes, inspect coating for defects or contamination.
  • Set-up oven to cure coating.
  • Prepare room for laminating process; cleaning to specifications and equipment set-up.
  • Prepare panes and materials for lay-up; cleaning to specifications and inspecting windows to ensure conformance.
  • Perform data entry to SAP; review production and process documentation and production scheduling and planning and assist in expediting the flow of material, parts and assemblies.
  • Study blueprints, work orders and/or machining instructions to determine product specifications, tool requirements and operational sequences.
  • Machine and equipment set-up and adjustment.
  • Work with chemicals and adhesives; clean and removal of residue from components.
Requirements
  • 1 year(s) of experience in fabrication and assembly of parts.
  • Must be able to read and write the English language and learn to interpret and comprehend company policies, procedures, safety instructions, work instructions, engineering specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, and other like documents used in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanically inclined using variety of hand tools and equipment.
  • High level of manual dexterity.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment can vary from loud to a more moderate level.

Supervision

Work operations are regularly supervised and / or performed via work instructions requiring interpretation.
