NY State Landscape Architectural Specialist

This role is part of the New York State Department of Transportation's efforts to enhance the state's infrastructure and natural environments.
The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $115,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
Job Overview
The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture or a related field, and will possess a strong understanding of landscape architectural principles and practices.
Responsibilities will include providing design and planning services for wetland enhancements and creations, historic preservation and restoration projects, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and roadside beautification and pollinator habitat development.
The ideal candidate will be able to prepare detailed drawings and presentations, and will have excellent communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and plan landscape architectural projects, including wetland enhancements and creations, historic preservation and restoration, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and roadside beautification and pollinator habitat development
- Prepare detailed drawings and presentations for public meetings, erosion and sediment control plans, layout plans, planting plans, construction details, specifications, estimates, and correspondence
- Organize and facilitate public meetings, workshops, and hearings to engage with stakeholders and gather feedback
- Evaluate potential impacts on New York State Department of Transportation property by projects proposed by other agencies, local governments, developers, and organizations
- Provide technical advice to right-of-way managers and staff, planning and program management managers and staff, highway, culvert, and bridge design managers and staff, construction managers and staff, and maintenance managers and staff
Requirements
Qualified candidates should have a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture or a related field, and possess a strong understanding of landscape architectural principles and practices.
Additionally, applicants should have excellent communication and organizational skills, and be able to work effectively in a team environment.
