The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is looking for a Registered Nurse to carry out essential duties that support the Nursing team in delivering patient care under the direct oversight of the Nurse Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilizes nursing principles for assessing, diagnosing, treating, and evaluating patient responses to health conditions.
- Evaluates patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Effectively coordinates the continuum of care across various settings.
- Creates a patient care plan tailored to the patient's condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic factors, prescribing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
- Executes the patient care plan according to established patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Accurately documents and reports interventions and patient/family responses.
- Collaborates with patients and families to integrate their contributions into a multidisciplinary patient care plan.
- Develops, coordinates, and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout the care episode.
- Implements nursing interventions in accordance with departmental, divisional, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff, adhering to universal precautions.
Work Schedule: 100% commitment, 40 hours per week
Shifts: Day shifts, every other weekend, and every other holiday
Compensation: Salary ranges from $60,000, commensurate with experience (excluding inpatient or shift differentials).
Pay Differentials: Additional compensation for evening, night, and weekend shifts, along with a $5,000 annual inpatient differential.
Benefits Overview: Comprehensive benefits package including paid vacation, sick leave, health, dental, life, and disability insurance options, as well as generous employer contributions to retirement plans.
Relocation Assistance: Available for qualified candidates.
Educational Requirements:
- An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, a Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with patients, families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Basic computer skills are necessary.
- A current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required upon hire.
- A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or a Master's Degree in Nursing is highly preferred.
- If a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing has not yet been obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
- Previous RN experience in a Psychiatric Hospital Unit is advantageous.
Successful candidates will be required to disclose any conviction history and will undergo a criminal background check and credential/education verification.
