Job Overview

Position Purpose: The role involves the safe and efficient operation of forklifts, ensuring proper handling of all incoming and outgoing freight. The operator is responsible for maintaining an organized warehouse environment, including orderly stacking and cleanliness. Duties include loading and unloading trucks and trailers, ensuring all shipments are accurately staged and loaded, and storing stock appropriately within the warehouse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Warehouse Manager in optimizing warehouse operations.
  • Operate sit-down forklifts and/or walkie-riders effectively.
  • Utilize computers and handheld RF devices for inventory management.
  • Safely load and unload trucks and trailers, including those from external carriers.
  • Be flexible to work extended shifts as needed and be comfortable with heights.
  • Handle stock ranging from 1 lb. to 50 lbs. consistently.
  • Ensure all shipments are staged and loaded accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment.
  • Process outbound cross-dock freight as required.
  • Supervise the proper storage of stock and manage product placement in storage racks.
  • Utilize warehouse operation sheets to pick customer orders and load them onto trailers.
  • Verify shipment accuracy against documentation for incoming and outgoing deliveries.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation accurately.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and company policies while operating forklifts.
  • Conduct daily maintenance inspections on forklifts.
  • Handle customer products with care and organization.
  • Inspect deliveries for quality and report any issues to the Warehouse Supervisor.
  • Report accidents or incidents to the Shift Supervisor immediately.
  • Organize trailer spotting to ensure efficient yard operations.
  • Keep dock doors clear of debris or snow for accessibility.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency and accountability, capable of working independently.
  • Possess basic computer skills and familiarity with RF equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English is essential.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality are crucial.
  • Strong communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to work overtime and cover other shifts as needed.
  • Experience with reach trucks or stand-up forklifts is preferred.
  • Experience in pallet building and breaking down stock for orders.
  • Familiarity with cross-docking processes is advantageous.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

Qualifications:

  • 3-6 months of experience operating forklifts in a warehouse setting.
  • Stable work history is preferred.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Warehousing certifications are a plus.
