Job Summary

As a Medical Surveillance Specialist at Sentara, you will be responsible for observing, recognizing, interpreting, evaluating, and documenting EKG tracings on telemetry-monitored patients to detect deviations from the patient's norm. You will promptly notify appropriate personnel of dysrhythmias and ensure the proper and safe functioning of the telemetry equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate and utilize monitoring system to full capacity
  • Ensure proper and safe functioning of the telemetry equipment
  • Promptly notify appropriate personnel of dysrhythmias
  • Document EKG tracings and deviations from the patient's norm

Qualifications:
  • HS - High School Grad or Equivalent (Required)
  • EKG/Monitor Tech

Skills:
  • Sentara Healthcare prides itself on the diversity and inclusiveness of its workforce
  • Per Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), some clinical environments require proof of education

Additional Requirements:
  • Completion of a monitor technician surveillance program/course required upon hire
  • Candidates who have not completed a monitor technician surveillance program must complete a certificate program within 90 days of hire
  • Or 1 year experience in monitor technician surveillance within the last 5 years will be accepted in substitute of a monitor tech surveillance program/course
  • To be released from new employee orientation all Monitor Technicians must successfully complete the Sentara Basic Arrhythmia competency tool which includes passing a basic arrhythmia exam
