Job Summary

The University of Utah is seeking a highly skilled Metabolic Dietitian to join our team. As a key member of our Division of Medical Genetics, you will provide comprehensive nutrition services for patients with inborn errors of metabolism. Your expertise will be instrumental in helping us improve the lives of children and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Provide nutrition therapy for patients with inborn errors of metabolism, utilizing ongoing laboratory data, food records, and growth patterns to determine dietary recommendations.
  • Interpret medical, laboratory, and dietary parameters to calculate prescriptions for special diets and medical foods.
  • Communicate laboratory results and changes to diet/medication therapy to patients.
  • Maintain records of patients' dietary prescriptions, analyses, growth, and nutritional status, as well as education/counseling sessions.
  • Participate as an interdisciplinary team member of the Metabolic Team.
  • Provide consultative services to outside agencies and physicians for patients who are hospitalized or have special medical needs.
  • Rotate on-call responsibilities with other metabolic dietitians to provide inpatient nutrition consultation for hospitalized metabolic patients.
  • Provide patient education to metabolic patients on both an inpatient and outpatient service basis and develop new approaches for educating patients and families.
  • Participate in division-based research and quality improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with metabolic providers and medical secretary to submit documentation to insurance companies for medication and formula coverage.
  • Teach nutrition, nursing, genetic counseling, and medical students, and residents about diet therapy of genetic metabolic disorders.
  • Develop liaisons with the Utah Department of Health, Newborn Screening Program, ARUP, IPAD, and pharmaceutical companies.
  • Analyze diets for research and clinical studies using MetabolicPro and Food Processor diet analysis software.
  • Plan and facilitate community events for patients and families.
Requirements
  • Registered Dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Current License to practice as a Certified Dietitian in the State of Utah.
  • Preferred: Two years of clinical/practical experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
  • Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE) Training.
