About the Fellowship

The Dr. Robert A. Ellis Jr. Fellowship Program is a prestigious opportunity for doctoral thesis students and post-doctoral researchers to advance their careers in plasma and/or fusion science, computation, engineering, or a related field. This two-year appointment, with the possibility of extension to a third year, provides funding and mentorship to support the development of the next generation of plasma and fusion researchers.

Responsibilities

The fellowship program is designed to provide several pathways to a successful career in plasma and/or fusion research. Fellows will have the opportunity to work with PPPL research experts to develop project ideas and collaborate with colleagues at Princeton University. The program also recognizes and supports researchers who can contribute to advancing the Laboratory's diversity and inclusion efforts.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must be graduate students earning a Ph.D. in plasma physics or fusion science, advanced computing, artificial intelligence for science, engineering, or a related field. Applications should be submitted no later than January 13, 2025.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit an online application and attach the following items as a single PDF document:

  • A well-organized letter of intent outlining research interests, not to exceed five pages.
  • The name or names of potential PPPL advisors (for students) or supervisors (for postdocs) who have expressed interest in supporting the applicant's research goals (if available).
  • A curriculum vitae (CV) including a list of publications (if applicable) and other accomplishments relevant to the fellowship goals.
  • Two letters of recommendation for students, three letters of recommendation for postdocs.

Applicants from historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
