Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team at YAI. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, love, work, and learn in their communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care services, including counseling, training in daily living skills, and assistance with personal care, medical, dietary, social, sexual, recreational, financial, and habilitative needs.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and wellness of the individuals we support.
  • Support with intimate care functions and build positive relationships.
  • Participate in the development of treatment plans and provide crisis intervention and management.
  • Complete mandatory trainings and apply skills to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Meet and demonstrate OPWDD Core Competencies.
  • Assist individuals in maximizing their strengths, interests, and abilities through teaching, self-advocacy, and emotional support.
  • Facilitate community integration, recreational activities, and socialization.
  • Complete documentation to ensure compliance and billing.
  • Train and present to a team.
  • Take on additional tasks outside of basic DSP work as needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Work or life experience in the I/DD field is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Valid NY State Driver's License may be required depending on the position.
  • Tuberculosis test is mandatory for most positions.
