Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in our MedSurg department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and collaborating with our healthcare team to ensure the best possible outcomes. Under general supervision, you will use your clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential health problems.

You will be responsible for assessing, planning, directing, providing, and evaluating nursing care for patients, as well as coordinating care activities with other healthcare disciplines. Your expertise will be essential in developing individualized nursing plans of care, prioritizing patient needs, and delegating tasks to other healthcare providers as needed.

Key ResponsibilitiesAssessment
  • Perform accurate multi-system assessments, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, education needs, and discharge planning needs.
  • Identify deviations from normal on routine lab diagnostic tests and reassess patients throughout their hospitalization.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive discharge assessments.
Planning
  • Develop individualized nursing plans of care that are sensitive to the developmental needs of patients.
  • Coordinate patient care activities and discharge planning with other hospital and clinic departments and community agencies.
  • Develop patient teaching plans and document them on the care plan or teaching plan.
  • Delegate patient care activities based on patient condition and scope of practice of other healthcare providers.
  • Establish priorities for patient care and classify the acuity level of assigned patients.
Implementation
  • Initiate appropriate measures based on protocol for the management of medical and/or surgical patients.
  • Bases nursing care on protocol in place for management of each patient.
  • Correctly carry out the physician's plan of care and accurately document in the EMR.
  • Utilize a multidisciplinary approach when appropriate and perform all necessary procedures correctly.
  • Initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations.
Evaluation
  • Evaluate assessment methods, plan of care, and patient response to treatment.
  • Participate in unit quality assurance activities.
Requirements
  • Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience.
  • Nine months recent Med/Surg experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided) required at hire.
  • Basic Life Support required at hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous healthcare experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field.
  • Two years recent Med/Surg experience in an acute care setting.
  • Demonstrated clinical judgment with a variety of chronic illnesses and diseases as well as surgical orthopedic patients.
  • Med/Surg Certification.
  • Telemetry experience.
Additional Requirements
  • Computer keyboarding skills.
  • Experience in acute care or skilled nursing, utilizing the nursing process, effective problem-solving, and communication skills.
