Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Optician to join our team at JWCH Institute, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for fitting and dispensing spectacles and other optical aids, working from ophthalmic prescriptions written by the Optometrist.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Filling prescriptions written by the Optometrist, including frame selection, measurements, and writing up orders for the optical lab.
  2. Recommending frames that align with the patient's style, face shape, and requirements.
  3. Adjusting and fitting frames according to prescriptions, patient specifications, and facial characteristics.
  4. Preparing and verifying orders from the optical lab using ANSI Standards prior to dispensing.
  5. Repairing and adjusting ophthalmic frames.
  6. Neutralizing patient's habitual eyeglasses.
  7. Assisting with discharge of patients.
  8. Operating specialized equipment such as calipers, lensometers, lens gauges, and pupilometers.
  9. Maintaining inventory of frames, frame supplies, contact lenses, and supplies to ensure a wide selection and for patient satisfaction.
  10. Educating patients on proper wear and maintenance of eye-glasses and contact lenses.
  11. Performing administrative tasks such as managing prescriptions, patient records, and insurance.
  12. Maintaining a log for tracking eyeglass orders with the optical lab and courier services.
  13. Working with front office support staff in scheduling patients for dispensing, contact lens trainings, and appointments with the Optometrist.
Requirements
  1. GED or High School Diploma.
  2. 1-year experience in an optical setting.
  3. Excellent customer service and organization skills.
  4. Current CPR Certification.
  5. Ability to travel from site to site as needed.
  6. Experience in working with patients and staff from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  2. Valid state license and certification as an Optician.
  3. ABO Certification is preferred.
